Paul Keating tells it like it is

Quote of the day, from Paul Keating, via [livejournal.com profile] angriest:

"Nations get a chance to change course every now and then. When things become errant, a wise country adjusts its direction. It understands that it is being granted an appointment with history. On this coming Saturday, this country should take that opportunity by driving a stake through the dark heart of Howard's reactionary government."

Bravo!

If Buffy was running, I'd definitely vote for her.

"for you"

Happy New Year! May it be everything you hope for, and more besides.

Once again, for the time travellers among us, here's last night's gig. It's not often I'm able to play a song by one of my very favourite bands and make a (mild) political statement, so I was very pleased to kick-start 2007 with Devo's "Beautiful World", which manages in two words to turn a syrupy pop-anthem into something much more subversive.

And here's a happy note to start the year on: The Crooked Letter is number nine on a list of the top ten books of 2006. Hurrah! Thanks, Pat.
