Devo is suing McDonalds for stealing the design of their iconic "energy dome" and sticking it on a Happy Meal toy promoting American Idol.

"The very same people that wanted nothing to do with Devo and looked down on Devo and condescended (to) Devo... enough time's gone by that they go, 'Hey, you know those guys are synonymous with what was new about New Wave,"' [said bass player Gerald Casale].

"They didn't ask us anything. Plus, we don't like McDonald's, and we don't like American Idol, so we're doubly offended."

Could they be cooler?

Deeply cool would be suing them, and then insisting that, as part of the inevitable settlement, MacD create a DevoDinner, constructed out of band-specced non-MacD contents, to advertise the band, and that it remain for sale until the stocks of powerdomes are exhausted.

With profits to the band...

Cause, you know, it's Devo and you gotta mess with peoples' heads!

Devo have always been a delightfully clever group and quick willing to push a few appropriate buttons (Mongoloid. Devo Corporate Anthem, Post-Post Modern Man) etc. It'll be good to have the opportunity to see them play live.

It was very impressive and by all accounts the minor criticisms I have (website sucks, partner's program cancelled, labour-intensive registration) are all being addressed.
