The Daily Dream is an LJ community created with the intention of capturing a snapshot of the world's unconscious musings--all its anxieties and desires, and all that is just plain meaningless as well. (Or is it?)

Members post their dreams every morning, or whenever they wake up, in simple one-sentence summaries. Whatever captures the mood and the message, with as few clauses as possible. Slowly, we hope, a bigger picture will emerge.

If you're interested in being part of this project, feel free to join up and begin posting your own dreams. All are welcome. There's no charge.

Tell your friends.

Who knows what currents flow at these depths, and what they might bring to the surface?

I'm a little leary of exposing the World At Large to the utterly insane hell that is my dreamworld. Imagine a combination of Thomas Ligotti's "Dr. Locrian's Asylum," Gary Numan's Replicas, Skinny Puppy's Too Dark Park, and Blade Runner and you might get an idea of the crap my unconscious mind spews up on a nightly basis....Oy.

Still...great source of imagery for fiction.

OK, but don't say I didn't warn you!

BTW: Cenotaxis = Totally Bitchin'(tm). There have been times when I was reading that story and Saturn Returns that I've thought to myself: "These characters act faaaaaarrrrr to much like everyday humans"--but then one of 'em pulls some kind of insane posthuman stunt like ramping his/her/its tempo to almost the Planck time scale and I remember that posthumanity won't necessarily be that different from us on the surface. After all, we still maintain various behavioral and structural facets of our Cro-mag ancestors. I don't see any reason why the posters will scrap all--or even most--of the factors that make us...well, us.

I, however, am dumping this useless organic interface for a shoggoth-shaped body built of utility fog.

As long as you keep it to a single sentence, you can do whatever you like.

Thanks for the kind words. You're absolutely right re the normality of the characters in Astropolis. The idea of cultural momentum is buried in the narrative but not really made explicit in the first book. Sometimes I wish I'd made it more up-front, but I figure people will either buy it or they won't. No amount of coercion from me will make a difference. :-)
