just grand
Oct. 25th, 2008 08:41 amHere, hot off the press, is the US cover of Astropolis 3: The Grand Conjunction:

What do you think? Stephan Martinière was unavailable so Scott Grimando has stepped up to the podium. I am excited, and not just because it depicts a setting from the climax of the book.
ETA - Here's the blurb:
Six hundred thousand years after Imre Bergamasc's abdication, the galaxy is barely recognisable. Emlee Copas is the Prime Minister of the Host, and the tyrant's own son Ra MacPhedron is its President. Imre himself has disappeared, and peace reigns where once was only chaos and war.
Underneath the veneer of civilization, however, revolution is fomenting. The murder of Helwise MacPhedron will never be forgiven, and neither will the slaughter of the Forts. With the Luminous still at large and the fate of humanity still very much in the balance, Imre's return may be all it takes to light the final fuse...
Since we're talking about the end of a series, "Tail of the Snake" is today's title of note.

Date: 2008-10-24 10:39 pm (UTC)Here's a closer look:
Context probably helps (which is not a good thing for a cover, I guess). The book deals with gender dysphoria in a post-human setting, so I like that the figure is slightly skewed, proportions-wise, and might even be growing out of the thing he/she is standing on.

She's either bowling a strike or practising her latest hardcore dancing moves...?

Date: 2008-10-24 11:03 pm (UTC)Palmer Cells are definitely something I'd like to revisit one day. I don't often re-read my own books once they're in print, but I did pick up Ascent a few months back and enjoyed the straits those ships endured. I still think it's a workable design principle. Maybe I should patent it!

Date: 2008-10-24 11:19 pm (UTC)This should change in the near future, though. We're still shopping around the Broken Land books, and hopeful they'll find a home (notwithstanding the current economic climate). The Books of the Change will appear in a POD version early next year. That's something.
(I just added the blurb to TGC to this post, btw. It would make no sense at all to anyone who hasn't read the series, but it's something. I'll put another excerpt online soon.)

I've noticed a lot of your books are available from The Book Depository -
http://www.bookdepository.co.uk
I wonder if they will be able to sell your YA novels as well in due course?
Btw, I highly recommend this web site. Free postage world wide. And the books usually arrive within one week of placing the order.

Date: 2008-11-07 06:28 am (UTC)I have just finished reading Book 1 and 2 of Astropolis. Read them in less than 2 days and am hungry for more! The Orphan Trilogy is what attracted me to read more of your work. What you do is my dream, to formulate a fantastic space opera of complex proportions that stirs a tapestry of emotions in the reader. Putting it into motion is another thing entirely.
Thank you for your writing, I thoroughly enjoy it. :D
