A quick reminder that Concept Sc-Fi's first annual short story competition, which I'll be judging, is now open for entries. The themes are space opera and music. Make me proud!

ETA: Poetry is allowed! (Hey, that rhymes.)

Does poetry count?

Hmm. That's a good question. I'll ask Gary.

Hi all,

Yes, I'm happy to consider poetry. But please bear in mind that there's a single prize fund of £100 for the winner, so the poems will be judged in the same pot as the stories.

Cheers,
Gary.

Concept Sci-fi Editor.

I've now had my first cup of tea of the day. And with the caffeine hit came the thought that it might be a good idea to provide some details on what I might be looking for in a poem.

The minimum word limit for short-fiction is 1,000. While I wouldn't be looking for poetry entries of the same minimum length, you could imagine a scenario where a poem of ten lines would have trouble competing with a short story.

So ideally I'd be looking for multi-verse poems that at the very least make it onto a second page. That doesn't mean that shorter poems can't win, but they'd have to be exceptional.

I hope that helps to clarify the situation. Do email submissions@conceptscifi.com if you have any further questions.

Cheers,

Gary.

The contest is calling for space opera stories that also involve music. If Helen wants to submit something along those lines, I'd really love to read it!

As Sean indicated--if the poems have a space opera with music theme, then their submission to the competition is welcome. If not, you are of course welcome to submit them to the Concept Sci-fi ezine instead: http://www.conceptscifi.com/submissions.htm Please note that the ezine is [currently] a market that pays in exposure only. Thanks, Gary.
