I find it amusing in a faintly anti-intellectual way (of which I'm not proud) that the word "Umgangssprache", for which the Google define function finds no definition in English, was used, not once, but twice in this blog post.

It means colloquial or everyday language...I think.

I find it highly amusing that the Scalzi post excoriating Roberts for his (to my mind) rather sensible post is littered with commenters who think that Paul McAuley's latest novel is an obscure work.

Amusing and depressing. Sad to say, but nearly all SF is obscure to the wider literary world. That's probably another irony buried in this whole debate.
