songs i have stolen

Lots of my novels apart from Saturn Returns have included references to composers and musicians as diverse as Frank Zappa, Gary Numan, Béla Bartók and Kalevi Aho. The references are even more blatant in my short stories, and I thought it'd be interesting (for me, if no one else) to track down the more obvious ones.

Pursuing this thought, I've ignored stories that are about music or musicians (like "The Jackie Onassis Swamp-Buggy Concerto" or "Evermore") and stuck to ones in which the references are thematic or completely gratuitous. There may be some--indeed many--passing references that I've missed. Given my recent comments about forgetting my own work, that seems all too likely.

There's probably a meme here, now I think about. List all the songs you've quoted or referenced in your writing, published or unpublished. Tell everyone!
