Below is the cover* of my first kids' novel, The Changeling, which will be published by HarperCollins March 2008.

Below the cut are the covers to the sequels, The Dust Devils and The Scarecrow.

They couldn't be more different to the wonderful cover and illustrations by David Cornish, which I posted here a while back. It doesn't matter. I love them both. What do you think?

Soon I'll post an excerpt for your reading pleasure, and I'll link to that here.

I am quite immodestly proud of these books. They may be the best things I've written, so far.

Given that "The Changeling" has already been used many, many times as a title, I wouldn't think so. Isn't yours "The Changeling Child" anyway?

No conflict at all. Maybe if the titles were identical and the books were coming out in the same month, maybe then one of us would have to put on our thinking caps, but given that's not the case we have nothing to worry about.

Great to see that blue line going up and up, btw. I rely on charts like that to keep me motivated.

My goodness... those are breathtaking and lovely and dazzling. Lovely as a set, too.

I'm really glad you think so. Can't wait to see the posters.

That's beautiful artwork. Having said that, I'm quite mesmerized by the font (methinks the calligrapher in me is being noisy).

Dang, haven't been by in awhile - new jobs are so time consuming *lol*!

Yes, the font is as beautiful as the art. I particularly like all the "ll"s in my name--almost enough to make me want my middle name (Llewellyn) on the cover as well. :-)

Nice to have you back here again. I hope the new job is treating you well.

I can just see your name in full. Mind you then you'd have kids coming up & asking for the full signature....hand cramping could be an issue.

Thanks re the return. I've been on a vertical learning curve of the plastics manufacturing industry (& will never look at the dairy aisle the same way again *lol*).

It's a weird position to describe & do, though, I can say it's the first one I've done where I've drawn on knowledge from all the other industries I've been exposed to before.

If I ever doubted my writing interests I'd say the fact my first thought driving home from the site of "gee I could have a whole new world of settings, ways to maim & create characters" from this gig says a lot.......

They're beautiful, and they really work well as a set.

Thanks, Aliette (or should I say "Granny"? ). I'm glad they're working for potential readers outside Australia too.

When are they out? I badly want to read them.

The first one's out in March, then every six months after that. THE CHANGELING was originally scheduled for September this year, but we held it off in order to get the cover exactly right. It was definitely worth the wait, imho.

Damn. Three-four months to the Changleing, six to eight months to Victory of Eagles....I shall compose myself in patience.

Here's the first sentence to one of them, just to whet your appetite:

The drought that gripped Ros's family's farm broke the year he started hearing voices.

Damn, I'm lost. Now I want to read the whole thing. Pity they aren't out for Christmas, or I could have put them on my wishlist.

I love them! So bright and so different...they'll stand out real nicely on the book shelves and colour differences for volumes are always very effective. I'm such a sucker for colour myself.

I look forward to seeing these pass through my hands :D
