The South Australian Museum is undergoing renovations at the moment. Perhaps that explains this underwhelming display:

Or maybe the natural habitat of the Rocky Mountain Goat really is full of off-cuts, wood shavings and cardboard boxes...

Um, "NO" indeed.*

Anyway, I'm off again for a few days. Apologies if I'm slow responding to emails etc. I'll drop in when I can, depending on the weather and wi-fi on Bribie Island. Queensland is starting to feel like a second home, these days.**

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Special Big Book Club Force Unleashed Day of Fun in Adelaide yesterday!

* And what's up with the reflection? It looks like an immature Alien is about to bite Alfred Hitchcock on the head.

** Did I mention that I'm setting part of my crime novel there? I'm looking for a cemetery, and open to suggestions.

Afraid I don't know any cemetaries in SA, but Toowong Cemetary in Brisbane or St Andrew's in Newtown (Sydney) are both rather nice and interesting.

St Andrew's is amazing. I could live there.

I keep hearing this. Maybe it's TOO awesome. I'm one for championing the underdog. :-)

"To Open Lid, Lift Goat."

I keep reading this as "To Open Goat, Lift Lid", which is obviously wrong but a very strange image!

What, you've never heard of Ikea? It's a sheep furniture store.

How do they handle the little Allen keys? Goats are cleverer than I thought. (Perhaps TOO clever.)

having driven across the Rocky Mountains half a dozen times, I can tell you that their habitat is exactly like that... unless you come at them from behind -- then you'll see all the timber supports holding up the mountains. But mountain goats don't go behind the scenes like that except when they're taking a coffee break.

Or is that machine oil they're imbibing? Goats have never looked entirely real to me.

They're not real. Jim Henson created them for Sesame Street, but they kept using their horns to beat the crap out of Burt, so they were set free.

When wild muppets crossbreed with abandoned cabbage patch kids, expect a whole world of hurt.

It's quite obvious that they've only bothered to unbox one goat. The second one is still in the box underneath.

Waiting.

For the Guardian Goat to release him so he can wreak his wrath upon the world? Maybe 666 wasn't a human number after all...

Toowong is awesome & very well known. Dutton Park is a fairly large one and been around I think close to Toowong's time (I forget sorry).

A closed one that's been around for ages is Balmoral cemetery (that one I've been through & am amused by the different eras & cultures in it).

Oh & the goat is perhaps going avant-garde with the new terrain - what with climate change and all :)

Looking for cemeteries? Strangely enough this isn't too difficult. Do what I did, pick up a street directory, turn the information section and look up 'Cemeteries and Crematoria'. Nothing easier. You should then decide where you would like your cemetery to be; close to the City or way out in the suburbs. West Terrace is old, big and close to the City (being on West Terrace, it could hardly be otherwise). However, there close to the City cemeteries like Dudley Park (with a view to and from the Northern rail line; intriguing possibilities there), and just slightly away from main traffic routes (Main North Road and Payneham). There are cemeteries in interesting locations. You need some ground truth, as the geologists would say, scan a street directory, find suitable cemeteries, and go and have a look see. Hard? Hardly.

best,

Jeff
