Under the category of "getting old", I offer progressive lenses, also called progressive addition lenses, progressive power lenses, graduated lenses, varifocal lenses, and no-line bifocals.

Sigh.

Had 'em for years. No biggie. Makes you look more erudite when you do readings at conventions if you look down through your specs.

That's the upside I'm focussing on. Pardon the pun.

I hope you like them, Sean. I wore them for about five years and never did get used to having to move my head instead of just my eyes, so now I have the other old age alternative - four pairs of specs. They are distance, computing, reading, and prescription sunnies. This might sound like overkill, but in fact if I mislay one pair I can't see to find the others!

I'd totally lose track of so many specs! Fingers crossed I can cope with the weirdness.

Just got mine this year as well. Adjusted to them fairly quickly, though I still occasionally get unexpectedly dropped into a fishbowl.

I'm getting in early in the hope of growing a neural net to deal with the fishbowl, before the difference is too great. Fingers crossed.

Glad you had a mostly good experience with them. Seems like a lot of people haven't.

As satimaflavell said, you can't just flick your eyes to the side anymore; you have to turn your entire head. This is bad news for us dirty old men trying to catch a glimpse of that PYT walking by.

Also, walking down a flight of stairs is a new adventure, as you have to tilt your head pretty far down to get good focus on them, at least until you feel comfortable not seeing them as clearly as you used to.

If I break my leg in the first few days, I'll know what to blame.

I'm wearing them now. Still now sure what I think. They take getting used to, for sure. I did consider getting normal contacts and reading lenses, but I couldn't be bothered with the contacts.

Agreed. And contacts bug my eyes. I'll give this a go and see how it works out. Will check in when they arrive. :-)
