adelaidesean: (abort!)
With WorldCon now long behind us, I am remiss in being so slow in publicly thanking all the volunteers who helped out with the SFWA suite.  Given that I couldn't be there, and that everyone was so busy doing their own things, I'm hugely indebted to those brave people who stepped in to make sure a difficult situation was made the very best of.  It was a trial against unspeakable odds, but these fine folk were more than equal to the task.  A good time was had by some, occasionally, and that's a good outcome. :-)

Gve yourselves a big pat on the back. You know who you are. Next time we're in a bar together, the drinks are on me!

UPDATE: Due to illness sudden (not serious, but sudden and dreadfully inconvenient) I am unable to attend Worldcon. Apologies to everyone I'd planned to meet up with or appear on panels with. This is the first time that I've had to pull out of anything at last minute, and it's a biggie. :-(

PS. Au Contraire was terrific, and is in no way to blame!

Here's my Worldcon schedule. In addition, I'm presenting at the Hugos, going to at least one other launch, and even hosting a party (there's probably going to be a bash in the SFWA suite after the Voyager party on Friday; more on that later). I'll also be in and out of the SFWA suite, so stop by and say hello. It'll be great to see you there!

THURSDAY
5:00 - Film, TV and spec fic (I arrive late Thursday, so I'm a maybe for this one)
(Note: I'm down for a kaffeeklatsche at 3:00 but won't have landed yet. Sorry!)

FRIDAY
3:00 - What is SFWA?
4:00 - Macabre launch & reading
5:00 - What can the mystery teach science fiction?

SATURDAY
10:00 - Building a bigger galaxy
2:00 - Kim Stanley Robinson interview
3.00 - Deborah Kalin Shadow Bound launch

SUNDAY
12:00 - Classic Australian SF
1:00 - Q&A: Writing YA speculative fiction
4:00 - Partners in crime: How to collaborate
5:00 - Objects in space (this clashes with the Hugo pre-event, so I'm a maybe here too)

MONDAY
11:00 - Reading
12:00 - Signing;
2:00 - Shared universes and united visions

Of course, prior to all this I'll be in New Zealand as GOH of Au Contraire. Will post that program soon. Exciting times!

Peter Watts totally deserves to come to Worldcon and [livejournal.com profile] catsparx totally deserves a medal for fearlessly working to make it happen:

I for one am hoping to be charbroiled by the fiery radiation of a magnetar (or something equally gruesome) in Peter's next book, should I be so lucky as to win the raffle. Failing that, it'd be great just to meet the man.

Let's do it, and keep our fingers crossed he's treated better on the way into Australia.

adelaidesean: (devo ticket)
This time tomorrow, I'll be winging out of Melbourne on my jaunt to Denvention, followed by the Writers of the Future XXIV celebration, and capped off with a launch of The Force Unleashed.

(Speaking of which, here's the first review, and here's a quick interview about the joy of writing for computer games. Thanks, Graeme!)

I'll be back on the 21st and attending Terra-Nova on the 23rd, so if you're in Adelaide and can't afford Worldcon, come there instead. :-)

I have some big news for September but will save that for another day, once it's all locked down. A hint, though: it has nothing to do with Judas Priest and Bill Bailey (both of which I have tickets for, though). Friends in Perth and Queensland can expect a visit.

To close with news from further afield, I'm very pleased to have found a home for "The Seventh Letter" in Czech magazine Pevnost. The missing "g" throughout the story will be translated into a missing "d", thus changing the title to "The Fourth Letter". Maybe it's just me, but I reckon that's way cool.

PS. I'll try to post and keep up with email while I'm gone, but please forgive me if I'm tardy.

PPS. Devo tonight! Woohoo!

PPPS. ETA two more reprints: The Crooked Letter (6th) and Heirs of Earth (3rd), both in Australia.
