Today Boing Boing posted a piece about a lightbulb that's burned continuously for 107 years.

Does this guy look like the Janitor from Scrubs or what?

He sure has a hungry look in his eyes.

I've heard it is quite easy to make globes that last hundreds of years.

Unfortunately they
a) Don't make much economic sense. They are expensive to manufacture and
b) They aren't very bright.

These days we wouldn't even bother. LEDs are fulfilling that niche.

Sad to say, it was just the resemblance to Dr Jan Itor that caught my eye. And the fact that the globe had been used as a nerfball target for years and somehow survived. In Scrubs, the globe wouldn't have lasted a second!

Heh. I've only just started watching Scrubs about a month ago (Thanks [livejournal.com profile] mynxii) with [livejournal.com profile] callistra.
We are on the second disk of season one. Janitor is my favorite character so far.

Hurrah! He was originally intended, apparently, to be purely a figment of JD's imagination. That's why in the early episodes he doesn't interact with anyone else. That's dropped pretty quickly, though, and he becomes a regular character. As long as he never has a name, I'll be happy.

Scrubs is one of my favourite shows. I'll miss it if it's ever cancelled.
