Amanda and I just finished watching season one and two of The West Wing--which we liked, of course, despite being so slow getting around to it. Along the way, I've become aware of an odd thing.

At the end of every night's viewing, I go to bed with the theme to "My Favourite Martian" in my head. That's not a bad thing, although it is becoming a little repetitive. And if Ray Walston or ever had a walk-on, I think my brain would melt.

I have a similar problem with the "Roslin and Adama" theme from BSG, which always leaves me humming "Scarborough Fair."

It's a problem not in the sense that I reckon the composers have stolen anything. Far from it.

I'm just suffering from cognitive dissonance because the sources couldn't be more different. It's like listening to I Killed the Prom Queen and ending up with Kylie Minogue in your head, or finishing a meal of bangers and mash with the taste of strawberries in your mouth. Bear with me until it passes.

That's great news about Joey. Thanks.

We'll keep watching if we can. The thought of three limp seasons fills me with no small sense of weariness, tbh, and the Bartlett moments aren't a big selling point for us (although we agree with his moral stance, more often than not we find the moralising a bit heavy-handed). All in all, I want more Josh, Toby, CJ and Joey and less of pretty much everyone else. They should have their own spin-off. :-)

Would it be possible to skip from the end of season three straight to season seven, do you think?

You can skip, but you might miss some major plot points. Also there is some great stuff in the middle seasons with CJ and Toby that it would be a pity to miss. the middle seasons are not really tedious, but they are not up to the first few seasons. Sort of how Lost got so bogged down that I gave up on it, and then it came good. Or how Heroes has got off message, and hopefully might improve....

I must say that the finale of the show had much more resonance for me because I had sat through the whole thing and knew waht it tied into.

And there's the episode with Dr Bartlett and the Muppets.....

The Muppets ep is delightful, and has the best scene between CJ and Big Bird, but nothing like the Angel ep. Which is good, as the words "wee little puppet man" still make me giggle insanely for five minutes after all this time.
