Every morning I wake up with a song in my head. Today it's "Domino Dancing" by the Pet Shop Boys, which I haven't heard for at least ten years. Beats me why. Sometimes the mind plays tricks...

Anyway, I'm off to start my stint at the Sydney Writer's Festival. As well as badgering students about the 10.5 Commandments, I'll be giving a couple of talks on the main program:

Sean Williams in a galaxy far, far away
Wednesday, 6.00
Sydney Observatory
(comes with a free viewing--form a line behind me!)

Crossing over
Thursday, 3.00
YA vs adult fiction with Matt Reilly and Margo Lanagan.

If you're in the area, come along. It'd be great to see a friendly face. :-)

Argh! I've got it stuck in my head now from just the post title.

*wanders off, humming*

For a spin-out, see my mashup (http://www.frogworth.com/raven/mp3/Raven%20-%20Domino%20Dancehall%20(Babylon%20Boys%20Breakcore).mp3) of aforesaid song with... er, some other shit ;)
My server may say "hey, your referer's wrong!" in which case download it from this page:

I'd like to goto the Observatory gig! Hope so.

That's really cool But--agh--now the song is in my head again. Argh!

If I don't see you at the Observatory, I'll hope to catch you on Friday. Finally. But--double agh--I've just realised that I've left my CDs at home. *sigh* Maybe you'll sign my t-shirt instead...

Well I may have a CD you don't have here. Let's see... hm, yes, still have hundreds of FourPlay CDs, yes! ;)
Whereas I shall have Saturn Returns on me because I am in fact reading it at the moment, and I doubt I'll manage to finish it (I'm also reading Lou Anders' Fast Forward 1 and other things... madness)

Wish you could have been here this week - just had two amazing nights with Jim Woodring at the Opera House Studio, where I did a semi-improvised thing with cello, sampling/looping pedal and laptop to a couple of animated things of his. Which I don't think was recorded. We'll be in Cairns for one night next Saturday, so maybe I can get that recorded...

Lou would be very pleased to hear that someone from down here is reading his collection. Are you enjoying it? I'll let him know if you are. :-)

Spooky: I was just two minutes ago talking about Jim Woodring with a friend here in Sydney. Wish I'd seen that gig!

There must be dozens of books I could trade for a signed CD. Let's compare CVs and I'll send you something when I get home and finishing unpacking. (Shelves arrive this weekend! Hurrah!)

Sounds cool! I'll gladly bring a CD along...
Oh btw if you're in the city and visiting Kinokuniya, there's a small but great Woodring exhibition on there. Nice. Turns out he's a really lovely guy, and very entertaining in his presentations. Did a wonderful spoken piece called "Lazy Robinson" to a series of extraordinary drawings, which was mind-expanding and humourous in equal amounts.

I've been enjoying Lou's anthologies for quite some time, and actually wrote to him back when he was editing Argosy and Live Without A Net came out. LWAN was my introduction to the estimable Chris Roberson as well, and his Celestial Empire stuff is still my fave area of his work.

See you soon! Have fun in town. If you're near a radio tonight, my show Utility Fog goes from 10pm-1am on FBi 94.5FM...

I was planning to come to the Crossing Over session, but the water pump in the car blew up last week, and I had to use my day off to get it fixed (it was due for service on the 31st May). If it had just waited one more week.....

However, if you need a feed let me know at saraswati at optusnet dot com dot au.

Do they have radios in hotels any more? I'll have a look in the TV and see what I can find.

Lou is a dude, and so is Chris. I'm really proud to be wandering about in their orbits.

I guess if you have broadband in the room you can listen online (http://www.frogworth.com/utilityfog/) (oh, that'll take you to my playlists page but there's a link there). Might be even more inconvenient than locating a radio though ;) Sometimes there's one near the bed or something?

Re the Observatory one:
Cost children $18 / accompanying adults $15.

Er? So... if I'm, you know, not so young (and actually nor is my girlfriend), what does that mean?
It'd be fun anyway, but any idea whether it's $18 or $15 for us?

Hmmm. Beats me. Sounds like a very strange case of reverse discrimination.

I'll ask someone...

I actually think it's very cute, since it's a youth-oriented thing. Just unclear on what an "unaccompanying" adult would be charged is all.

D'oh! Sorry to hear about the Unexpected Car Repair Bill. The bane of my life, those things...

Thanks for the offer!

I didn't realise it was a youth-oriented thing until tonight. Eek. Hopefully the speech I've written won't bore the little blighters to tears...

Tears being the operative word... Anyway, hopefully I'm not the only adult fan who can't make 3pm on a Thursday (which is a shame as I'd really love to see Margo too!), so we'll be appreciative. 90% sure we can make it...

All struggling (and non-so-struggling) authors catered for. Please advise of any food intolerances, or dislikes beforehand. I'dreally hate to accidentlly poison someone.

Care is now okay. Just expensivly repaired. Unfortunately, I can't get to work (not without a 2 hour trip each way (versus an 1/2 hour) anyway) without it.

See what happens when you write a Star Wars book! You are forever after labeled as a children's/YA author by the mainstream literary gestapo. I'm in the same boat as others re this event - no sprogs to bring along - so I'll probably see you at Crossing Over instead.

Sorry we didn't make it to dinner this week. The offer was very tempting. Next time!
