all day, all day
May. 27th, 2007 08:49 amEvery morning I wake up with a song in my head. Today it's "Domino Dancing" by the Pet Shop Boys, which I haven't heard for at least ten years. Beats me why. Sometimes the mind plays tricks...
Anyway, I'm off to start my stint at the Sydney Writer's Festival. As well as badgering students about the 10.5 Commandments, I'll be giving a couple of talks on the main program:
Sean Williams in a galaxy far, far away
Wednesday, 6.00
Sydney Observatory
(comes with a free viewing--form a line behind me!)
Crossing over
Thursday, 3.00
YA vs adult fiction with Matt Reilly and Margo Lanagan.
If you're in the area, come along. It'd be great to see a friendly face. :-)

Date: 2007-05-27 07:27 am (UTC)If I don't see you at the Observatory, I'll hope to catch you on Friday. Finally. But--double agh--I've just realised that I've left my CDs at home. *sigh* Maybe you'll sign my t-shirt instead...

Date: 2007-05-27 07:33 am (UTC)Whereas I shall have Saturn Returns on me because I am in fact reading it at the moment, and I doubt I'll manage to finish it (I'm also reading Lou Anders' Fast Forward 1 and other things... madness)
Wish you could have been here this week - just had two amazing nights with Jim Woodring at the Opera House Studio, where I did a semi-improvised thing with cello, sampling/looping pedal and laptop to a couple of animated things of his. Which I don't think was recorded. We'll be in Cairns for one night next Saturday, so maybe I can get that recorded...

Date: 2007-05-27 07:40 am (UTC)Spooky: I was just two minutes ago talking about Jim Woodring with a friend here in Sydney. Wish I'd seen that gig!
There must be dozens of books I could trade for a signed CD. Let's compare CVs and I'll send you something when I get home and finishing unpacking. (Shelves arrive this weekend! Hurrah!)

Date: 2007-05-27 07:47 am (UTC)Oh btw if you're in the city and visiting Kinokuniya, there's a small but great Woodring exhibition on there. Nice. Turns out he's a really lovely guy, and very entertaining in his presentations. Did a wonderful spoken piece called "Lazy Robinson" to a series of extraordinary drawings, which was mind-expanding and humourous in equal amounts.
I've been enjoying Lou's anthologies for quite some time, and actually wrote to him back when he was editing Argosy and Live Without A Net came out. LWAN was my introduction to the estimable Chris Roberson as well, and his Celestial Empire stuff is still my fave area of his work.
See you soon! Have fun in town. If you're near a radio tonight, my show Utility Fog goes from 10pm-1am on FBi 94.5FM...

Date: 2007-05-27 12:10 pm (UTC)Care is now okay. Just expensivly repaired. Unfortunately, I can't get to work (not without a 2 hour trip each way (versus an 1/2 hour) anyway) without it.

Date: 2007-05-27 08:03 am (UTC)Cost children $18 / accompanying adults $15.
Er? So... if I'm, you know, not so young (and actually nor is my girlfriend), what does that mean?
It'd be fun anyway, but any idea whether it's $18 or $15 for us?
